As is normally the case, the quarterback rankings for 2008 are based largely on player performances from the previous year. The quarterback
position is stable in the NFL (especially for productive players) so player movement and large fluctuations in performance are a rarity.
Breakout players are notoriously hard to predict at the QB position so give priority to those players who have skins on the wall. A rookie quarterback
almost never produces respectable numbers so rookies are toward the bottom our quarterback rankings.
Because the
standard starting lineup
includes one quarterback per week and the
standard league size
is only 12 teams, any team can normally find a serviceable quarterback on the waiver-wire. However, unlike other fantasy positions, the true stud quarterbacks are
few and far between. If you're not able to draft any of the first-tier quarterbacks, wait until the end of the second run to make your selection. You'd be better served
drafting a low, first-tier RB or WR than a high, second-tier QB, especially since the fantasy point output of second-tier QBs will be very similar.
As with all fantasy positons, be sure to regularly update your 2008 quarterback rankings based on events leading up to the start of the regular season. As previously
stated quarterback rankings are largely static, but anything can happen during the pre-season.
