Justin Forsett not Getting Much Love in 2015?

I'm not sure he's being disrespected.  Forsett finished 2014 ranked 8th overall among running backs in total fantasy points and 10th in fantasy points per game.  We currently have him ranked 13th among running backs which isn't much of a downgrade, especially since he's closing-in on 30 years of age.

Full Story

Ravens running back Justin Forsett is focused on reality, not fantasy. However, some fantasy draft gurus are skeptical that Forsett can duplicate his 2014 season.

Listing his top 150 fantasy players for 2015, NFL.com fantasy analyst Michael Fabiano has Forsett ranked as just the 15th best running back, and the 32nd best player overall.

Running backs ranked ahead of Forsett are:

1. Adrian Peterson, Vikings
2. Le’Veon Bell, Steelers
3. Jamaal Charles, Chiefs
4. Arian Foster, Texans
5. Eddie Lacy, Packers
6. Marshawn Lynch, Seahawks
7. Matt Forte, Bears
8. LeSean McCoy, Bills
9. C. J. Anderson, Broncos
10. Jeremy Hill, Bengals
11. DeMarco Murray, Eagles
12. Mark Ingram, Saints
13. Frank Gore, Colts
14. Melvin Gordon, Chargers

Of those 14 running backs, only four had more yards than Forsett (1,266) last season – Murray, Bell, McCoy, and Lynch. Only seven backs in the league had more touchdowns than Forsett (eight) last season.
Fantasy players smart enough to pick up Forsett last season got a gem. Yet, Forsett enters next season hearing that at age 29, he may be starting to slow down. Forsett spoke about his determination to prove otherwise at the recent NFL rookie symposium.

Forsett doesn’t need additional motivation. But even in fantasy football, Forsett probably figures he deserves more respect.

It's pretty easy to be skeptical of a guy who going into last season had just 347 career carries, had never taken more than 118 carries in a season, had never run for more than 620 yards, or rushed for more than 4 touchdowns.

Can he replicate a 235 carry, 1,266 yard, 10 touchdown campaign? Doubtful.

But speaking of average running backs finding success with Gary Kubiak!

I don't think people are nearly worried enough at this point about C.J Anderson. Everyone seems pretty content throwing this guy into the top ten forgetting the fact that he was only the starter by the end of the season because of a slew of injuries to the rest of the runners. I don't think Anderson is any more talented than Ronnie Hillman, Montee Ball, and Juwan Thompson and with a new coach and only six games as "the guy" I don't see him as a lock above more talented backs even if they are in somewhat less favorable situations.

I think if he truly remains "the guy" then I wouldn't argue with him being right around the #5 spot.  Anderson finished the season as the 9th ranked running back in fantasy points per game, even though he was only given the bulk of the carries in the last 6 games of the season, with a 4.7 YPC at that.

I'm more afraid of Denver going back to a timeshare than I have of Anderson's abilities.

That's my biggest worry. I don't think he is more talented than the other guys on the roster which usually means time share.

And you got to think they give Montee the ole college try at least one more time right?

You fail to forget that Marc Tresman is the OC for the Ravens and have the best offensive guard in the league. Forsett with Tresman as OC will get tons of catches for PPR and is his new Matt Forte. Also had the most 20 yard runs out of any back. I love him this year and I'm drafting him 3rd overall no matter where I am to insure I have him.

If one fails to forget then they remember ;)

There is a stark difference in the difference between Matt Forte and Justin Forsett. Forte has spent seven seasons with one team as a premier, high volume back in both the running and passing game. Forsett's career has gone through five teams so far. His career high in receptions came last season with 44. That's Forte's career low. Forsett got 235 carries last season, also a career high, Matt Forte has had less than 235 once in his 7 seasons (in a season where he only played 12 games it should be noted).

Forsett is also tiny, will be 30 in October, and has never been the guy before. The chances of him taking that much of a load again and not breaking down and being as effective are very low. I am not saying it can't happen, but taking him at three is a mistake in my opinion.

And just out of curiosity; how do you draft him at 3 if you are picking out of the 12 spot?

Thanks for stopping by illye19!

Are we talking about #3 overall in a standard, non-dynasty draft?  I'm not sure that is even necessary since in mock drafts he's going right around the end of the second round.

Forsett has a ton of PPR upside, kind of Matt Forte lite.
I think C.J. Anderson is legit. 1) Kubiak wants more run balance. 2) Kubiak doesn't like RBBC. 3) Anderson is toughest and most durable of the three RBs. 4) Peyton likes him.

I think you're right Grey, the hope is that he can just stay healthy.

Fun Fact: The last time a Peyton Manning running back eclipsed 1,100 yards rushing was Edgerrin James in 2005.
