Is Vernon Davis worth the risk?

Ive been debating either taking Gronkowski in the second round or just taking another running back and waiting till later on to get Vernon Davis. I also like Delanie Walker and feel hes underrated badly! I guess my question is when do i take a TE and who outside of Graham, Gronk and Olsen

Hey JReynolds96!  Thanks for stopping by.

My feeling is that Davis will bounce back from an abysmal 2014, but I don't think he'll play well enough to distinguish himself from the other 12-14 tight ends that will be picked after Jimmy Graham and Rob Gronkowski.  I actually have Davis ranked way down at 23 which means I probably wouldn't even pick him in 2015.

I say grab Gronk in the 2nd and then stack-up with 6 or so running backs throughout the draft.  That will pay bigger dividends in 2015 I'd say.

If you are in a 12 team league; Gronk isn't going to last into the second round. I'll tell you that right now (Yes, even if Brady doesn't play 4 games).

I would rather take the risk with Owen Daniels than Vernon. Peyton's tight end is always money.

Totally agree with TK; I've only done a few mock drafts so far this year, but Gronk has never lasted into the second round even in a 10 team draft. Odds are you'll always have at least one person that thinks the positional advantage that Gronk has over the rest of the field is worth a first round pick.

In 10 team draft its looks like Gronk is averaging 2.07, so getting him at the end of the 2nd will be a crap-shoot.  In 12 team drafts, he's going at 2.05 which means it'll be a long-shot that he's there at the end.

I personally have done over 40 mock drafts and have gone with Marcellus Bennett in the 6th round every time. This is a little higher than projected but I'm ok with that because I don't want to run risk of losing him. I like him a lot because he got over 100 targets and 90 catches last year. This year they lose Brandon Marshall and Marc Tresman. Tresman loved to throw to Forte and some of those targets will be spread around this year, also John Fox loves throwing to TEs as you can see with Julius Thomas (especially in the end zone). With this I think Bennett is ready to have a big year and more TDs. So to answer your question, absolutely don't take gronk there are too many high up RBs and WRs to choose from the 1st and 2nd round.

128 targets?  That's hard to believe, good call.
